1916 and all that
So our wee republic is 100 years old soon. I wonder how well we’ve done . Its a good time to review the aspirations and ideas that were so bravely fought for in 1916 by many brave men and women. Those were people who cherished what it was to be Irish. They wanted to create a republic that was socially just and welcoming, a place where we cared for each other and helped each other. A land that was proud of its rich heritage , and finally a place where we could all prosper together in a fair and just society. These men and women entrusted their ideals to our elected representatives in the Dáil, Seanad and Councils of Ireland. Down through the years many other good men and women carried on with the work in their daily lives but how have we progressed as a nation?
Emigration has increased exponentially ,we have lost our young and talented youth
People are dying on the streets
Most of our workers are working for barely a living wage.
Many have no homes to call their own
Our health service is broken
Our education system is underfunded
Our national integrity and pride has been destroyed by countless scandals
Our young generation are turning to crime, drugs and alcohol.
Where are we and our elected representatives in all of this ?
The statistics are showing that a uplift is ongoing in our economy. The large co-operations are returning record profits. The wealthiest 10% in the country control 30% of all the wealth. Government are legislating to increase the wealth of the wealthy.
Maybe its time to call a halt.
It would appear that we have allowed ourselves to put….
prosperity in front of compassion
work in front of family
profit before people
its not to late to change but we must start asking the right questions and demanding the correct action. More importantly we must make a stand for what we believe in.
Lets celebrate 1916 for all the right reasons and get back our identity and dignity.

The Mulligan Cup
In October 2015 for the third year, there was another great weekend in Tullamore Golf club and Ballesterous Course in the Heritage resort and Spa.
The Mulligan Family Cup changed hands yet again..This Year it was won by Ciarán who played fantastic golf over the two days and was in the winner’s circle with 6 holes to play. This year the golf was intense. After a quiet first nine holes Ronan came to the fore but it was Ciarán playing with total determination who finished on top at the end of day two winning by a very narrow margin. So it’s on to next year and with Ciarán to arrange the venue as well as the small matter of his Wedding !!!Next year’s competition will be a very competitive event as everyone tries to regain the trophy !
What a great week to be a supporter of Dundalk FC. Thanks to Stephen Kenny and everyone involved at Dundalk FC for giving the town and the area such a lift over the past months. Long may the good times continue. Here’s to even more success next year and some great European nights in Oriel Park. Come on the town !!
Had a wonderful time in Calahonda,
Restaurants in El Zoco cente in Calahonda on first floor over the Shopping centre were very good and stayed in El Porton.
Weekly Markets in Fungerola, Marbella, Miraflores and La Cala were great.
Nearby Golf at: La Cala ( Two Courses Americas and Europa very hilly rate 3/10), Mijas Los Olivas wonderful course 9/10 , Miraflores very friendly and not difficult 8/10 and Santa Clara 7/10.
Plenty of shopping in Fuengirola and Marbella. Aldi, Liddle and Dunnes plentiful too.
A Super boardwalk goes all the way from Rivera into La Cala Town which has a lovely beach with restaurants dotted along the way. And the weather….WOW !! Back soon.
Great result for Ireland in the Euro 2016 qualifyers against Poland. Lets hope that they are as good against Scotland in June.
